How we publish

Editorial standards.
Clear thinking. Accountable publishing.

Our approach to sources, evidence, authorship and the ideas we put into the world.

A useful idea needs a clear basis.

The Figured Journal publishes perspectives, research-informed discussion, practical guides and school briefings about human and practical capabilities. Our purpose is to help parents and educators think more clearly about learning and make better decisions.

An original argument, a study finding and a proposed activity are different kinds of contribution. We identify the format and describe the basis of each piece so readers can judge its relevance.

Sources should be inspectable.

Substantial research-informed pieces link to the studies, institutional guidance or frameworks they discuss. Reference notes identify the type of source and the material consulted, including when this is a public abstract or guidance overview. A cited organisation has not thereby endorsed Figured.

We consider the learner group, setting, task and time horizon when discussing a finding. An association is not presented as proof of causation. A broad review is not evidence that a particular Figured programme achieves the same outcomes.

Practice tools carry their own limits.

Our planning prompts, observation examples and activity suggestions are editorial tools unless a piece states a different basis. They are not validated assessments or standardised measures. Fictional learning situations explain an idea; they are not programme case studies.

Practice briefings combine selected sources with Figured's design perspective. They are not systematic reviews or reports of original research. A future research report or case study would need its own method, evidence, permissions and limitations.

Authorship should be accurate.

The current collection is published by the Figured team and was developed with AI-assisted research and drafting. Sources were checked against accessible publication records and public guidance. We do not imply independent peer review or named specialist review where none has occurred.

Figured is responsible for its published content. We welcome informed questions and corrections. A future contribution or review will identify its author or reviewer only with an agreed, accurate description of that role.

Learning and commercial information stay clear.

Articles are freely readable. Related programme links help readers explore a relevant next step. Programme pages state scope and readiness; an educational article does not establish that a place is available or a learning result is guaranteed.

We publish no invented partner endorsements, learner testimonials or programme outcomes. The Journal currently contains no Figured delivery case studies or original impact reports.

A correction should be easy to raise.

If you find an inaccurate claim, broken source or unclear distinction, contact the Figured team with the article URL and the point in question. Material corrections should be identified on the affected piece, with an updated date.

Published 19 October 2026. The dates on individual pieces refer to their publication or a stated substantive update, rather than automatic refreshes.
